Investing In Memphis Real Estate - The City & The Comeback!

Sat, Oct 13, 2012

The most common question I get from interested real estate investors is "Why is Memphis a place I want to invest for the long-term?".  This week, Memphis Mayor A.C. Wharton, Jr. made the answer easy for our company...and every other Memphis company spreading the word about our great city.

Here is a copy of the letter from October, 11th from Mayor Wharton.  This is one of those classic examples of how leadership and dedication can inspire and propel a city forward.  From government leaders to civic leaders all the way to community leaders, optimism for the continued growth of our great city abounds.  As we all know, when a city has the right pieces in place, en environment for growth takes hold.

Growth in not only jobs and population, but also growth in incomes, business revenues, home sales and home values.  Growth hits in so many economic areas and it all starts with the right leadership from the top.  You can read the full letter below and visit the Memphis Connect website to see where it was originally posted.

This city is on the rise...and for long-term real estate investors, whether you pick Memphis for your investments or not, always invest based on where a city is going.  Memphis is going up!

All the best,

Chris

Dear Friends,

Memphis is a city abundant in deep roots, from the Old Growth Forest to the Greenline to the 4,500 acres of Shelby Farms Park.

But deep roots are not just reserved for our green spaces. From New Chicago to Soulsville, Orange Mound to Annesdale-Snowden, Uptown to Downtown to Midtown, Memphis is a close-knit city. We are bound together by our churches, our schools, our music, our spirit, and our soul.

Here are the crossroads, history is made not by worrying about what you don’t have, but by taking care of business with what you do.

Some cities never sleep, this one never rests.

Last year, Memphis went on the road with an award-winning Broadway show. Barack Obama, the President of the United States, came here to be inspired by a group of local high school students. With newcomers like Electrolux and Mitsubishi Electric joining the familiar faces of KTG USA and Riviana Foods, Memphis received $1 billion in economic investment.

More recently, the world saw this city’s grit and determination in the Academy Award-winning documentary “Undefeated.” It recognized its heart when the Memphis Grizzlies won “Beyond Sport Team of the Year” during the London Olympics for the team’s charitable efforts. It heard its siren song when 75,000 people paid tribute to Elvis Presley on the 35th anniversary of his death. And it celebrated this city’s creativity and culture when Cooper-Young was named one of the 10 best neighborhoods in the country.

Each and every day, Memphis is branching out. You can call it a comeback, but for those who have lived here and left, now is the perfect time for them to return to their roots.

Even for those who have never been here, this may be the perfect place to put down some new ones.

With support from the Memphis Convention & Visitors Bureau, the Greater Memphis Chamber, and Sullivan Branding, we invite you to send the Comeback video to the former and future Memphians in your life and invite them home. Help us change the world, again.

Yours in Service,
A C Wharton, Jr.
Mayor of Memphis
