Meet the Client — Julie C.

“I’ve known for a few years that I needed to invest in something. I’m an artist so income isn’t always reliable and I don’t have a 401k or any sort of retirement plan to rely on. Even though my husband and I are invested in stocks through a roboinvestor, I know I want to invest in something that will generate passive income. We’re still in our twenties but we know we want to build a portfolio sooner rather than later.”

More and more, we’re seeing the age of our first-time investors skew younger as people think about their retirements earlier.  We asked Julie about how she came to the point of reaching out to us and what her experience was like.

What made you choose to reach out to Memphis Invest?

Did you feel at all intimidated when scheduling a call?

“I really don’t like talking on the phone. Scheduling a call was so easy, though, and [Memphis Invest] made it so easy to pick a time that worked for me. I got a welcome email and a follow-up packed with great information about the company so I didn’t feel like I was going into the call blind.

[My advisor] helped me feel prepared. I knew what Memphis Invest was about, how much everything was going to cost, what services were offered, and some statistics that really blew me away.

So by the time I got to my call, I felt like I knew what to talk about and I was totally relaxed.”

What did you experience during that first 1-to-1 call?

“It’s not a long call at all. Fifteen minutes. [My advisor] was great, though. He asked me about myself and what I do, and we really talked about what my ambitions are and what I want out of my investments. He made it clear that Memphis Invest is about building a portfolio, and if that wasn’t a fit for us, they would let me know.

It really felt like they had my best intentions in mind. I never felt like I was being pushed into anything, even when I said it might not be the best decision for us right now financially. We want to save up more first.

I could tell that it wasn’t just about selling a property or getting me in, and that felt very genuine. [My advisor] even invited me to come visit the office in Memphis since we only live a few hours away.”

How have your impressions of turnkey investing changed?

“I feel more confident that investing in turnkey real estate is the right decision for us. Right now, we can’t do it for financial reasons, but we’re going to come back to Memphis Invest in the future. Just talking to my advisor and getting more information really made me feel confident in the Memphis Invest model and process.”
